Music and movies work as a bridge to connect different cultures, Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore today said as he made a pitch for organising film festivals for bolstering ties among countries.

"Music and films help improve ties beyond languages and borders and increase familiarity, help understand cultures of each other. We are oganising such film festivals," the Minister of Information and Broadcasting said while inaugurating European Union Film Festival (EUFF) here.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, Rathore said such festivals help improve friendship among countries which is important for increasing trade.

In a reply to a question, Rathore said the Department of Film Festivals (DFF), which comes under the Ministry, will organise Goa Film Festival where films from different countries will be screened.

"There are several places in the country where such festivals can be organised," he said when asked if there was any plan to hold such a festival in Rajasthan, his home state that has many tourist destinations.

A delegation including ambassadors from European Union member states was also present at the event, which began with the screening of Danish film "Silent Heart" (Stille Hjerte).

Besides, a musical performance was organised by DFF in collaboration with EU.

Twenty-four movies will be screened during the 21st seven-day EUFF at 11 different cities in the country including Mumbai and Kolkata.
