Several renowned composers, lyricists and singers came together for a special cultural show here today for patients and hospital staff.

Veteran music composer M K Arjunan inaugurated the Arts and Medicine programme organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at the Government General Hospital here.

The popular event held every Wednesday with support of the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and the district administration saw Arjunan, also known as Arjunan Master, sharing his first-hand experience about the healing quality of music.

"I know that musicians have done research on the benefits of music in medicine. When I underwent surgery a couple of years back, music was playing in the backdrop," said the 78-year-old composer, who began his film career in 1968 with 'Karutha Pournami'.

The event also saw an hour-long performance by playback singer Sadiq.

"It is wonderful that the Kochi Biennale Foundation is popularising this programme. I hope that every district hospital can emulate this service," added Arjunan Master.

Also present in the audience were composer Rajamani and Sasikala Menon, who is the only female to have penned the most number of songs for Mollywood.
