In a display of communal amity, Muslims in this town welcomed an annual Hindu religious procession by presenting shawls to the participants.

As the "mulaiparai" (pot containing seedlings) procession to propitiate local Goddess Mariamman made its way to a water body, Muslim residents of the area, including Jamad head of Pasipattarai Street, Jaffarullah, and community leader Mohammed Nizzar, welcomed its members.

Hundreds of Muslims participated in the function organised to welcome the members of the procession. Later, the Mulaiparis were immersed in the Nochi Oorani with prayers to the Goddess Mariamman.
