Muslims in Kerala will begin the month long fasting from tomorrow with the sighting of new moon this evening, heralding the holy month of Ramzan.

Spiritual authorities of the community declared having sighted the new moon at Ponnani and other places in north Kerala.

This was followed by declaration of Ramzan by imams in south Kerala as well.

The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramzan is observed as a fasting period by Muslims around the world by abstaining from food and water from sunrise to sunset.

The month-long fasting will culminate in the Id-ul-Fitr celebrations next month.
