Mustard seed prices rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3,899 per quintal as traders indulged in widening holdings, driven by a strong trend at the physical markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, mustard seed for delivery in May went up by Rs 25 or 0.65 per cent to Rs 3,899 per quintal, in an open interest of 14,580 lots.

Mustard seed for June contracts also moved up by Rs 25 or 0.64 per cent to Rs 3,937 per quintal, revealing an open interest of 1,12,240 lots.

Marketmen attributed the rise in mustard seed prices to widening of bets by participants following a firm trend at the spot markets on strong demand against tight supplies.
