Jeera prices dropped by 1.57 per cent to Rs 18,220 per quintal in futures trade today as traders trimmed their positions, driven by easing demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October month drifted lower by Rs 290, or 1.57 per cent to Rs 18,220 per quintal with an open interest of 5877 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in September contracts traded lower by Rs 270, or 1.47 per cent to Rs 18,055 per quintal in 17,859 lots.

Analysts said offloading of positions by participants on the back of sluggish demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position on higher supplies from producing regions, mainly pulled down jeera prices at futures trade.
