R Mutharasan has been elected as secretary of Tamil Nadu Unit of CPI.
The 64-year-old Mutharasan was elected to the post at the end of party's 4-day 23rd State Conference, which concluded here yesterday, a party release said today.
He succeeds D Pandian, who held the post for nearly six years.
Mutharasan received the support of 63 State Council members, while his Mahendran received 61 votes, it said.
