The one-man commission probing Muzaffarnagar riots recorded the statement of the then District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar Surender Singh, police said today.
Singh appeared before the inquiry commission and his statement was recorded here last evening, they said.
He was shifted from Muzaffarnagar after Kawal killings when violence spread in Muzaffarnagar and nearby districts of Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut and Saharanpur in August 2013.

On January 15, the commission had recorded the statements of a few officials who were serving during the riots in 2013.
The government has asked the commission to probe the Muzaffarnagar riots, starting from Kawal incident on August 27 2013. The commission has not submitted its report so far.
The panel will record statements up to January 21 and summon several officers who were serving during the riots, according to Circle Officer of Budhana, Shailendra Lal.
The one-member judicial inquiry commission of Justice (retd) Vishnu Sahai, former Judge of Allahabad High Court, was constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government in September 2013 to probe the Muzaffarnagar violence.
Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in the same month.
