Myanmar today hailed the Gujarat development model, implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was Chief Minister of the state, and said the model could be effective for it as the country has a developing society.
Myanmar's President U Thein Sein conveyed this to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj when she called on him.
"The President said Myanmar has been following the Gujarat development model and noted that it could also be applicable to Myanmar because it is also a developing society," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
During his 12-year tenure as Chief Minister, Modi ushered in a paradigm shift towards pro-people and pro-active good governance, bringing in a positive change in the life of each and every citizen of Gujarat, according to Prime Minister's website.
