Myanmar has much to learn from India as it returns to a multi-party democratic system of governance, Speaker of the country's Upper House told President Pranab Mukherjee as he met him here.
Mukherjee, during the visit of the 23-member parliamentary delegation led by U Khin Aung Myint, Speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House), said India is committed to supporting it's eastern neighbour in "whichever way it can."
"Welcoming the delegation, the President said relations between India and Myanmar are "rooted in our history, generations of our people have travelled, lived and worked together. Both countries have shared close cultural, religious, business and trade relations.

"The Leader of the Myanmar Parliamentary delegation recalled the close ties between the early generation leaders of India and Myanmar. He said when General Aung San (father of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi) was assassinated, Prime Minister Nehru described it as a loss for the whole of Asia.
