Two Myanmarese poachers who had intruded into one of the remote islands of Andaman and Nicobar have been arrested, Andaman police said today.

Last month the union territory's police received inputs about sighting of a foreign dinghy with some foreigner occupants near the coastline of Interview Island, which has a wildlife sanctuary.

Subsequently anti-poaching operations were started involving teams from police and IRB personnel and the boat was found along with few other articles, a police statement said.

On September 1, the two Myanmarese nationals identified as Ata Lai Say and Myn T Than were caught, police said.

Search operations for the apprehension of remaining poachers are currently underway at the Interview Island Wildlife Sanctuary, which is known for its endemic flora and fauna and animals, including elephants.
