A 12-year old girl, hailing from Tirupur, succumbed to a 'mysterious fever' at the Government hospital here, taking the toll of such deaths from Tirupur in the past one month to five.

Mannika, a resident of Parapalayam in Tirupur, was suffering from fever for the last four days and was shifted to Government Hospital here from a private hospital two days ago.

But, without responding to the treatment, she died last night, hospital officials said.

Doctors said that the girl died of 'mysterious fever,' while relatives and locals in Tirupur, which witnessed at least five similar deaths in the past one month, refused to accept it and expressed doubts that it could be dengue.

The latest death comes barely four days after a five-year old girl, also hailing from Tirupur, died due to the 'mysterious fever'.
