With a view to assisting farmers in Haryana, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) will provide credit support of Rs 880 crore to district central cooperative banks.

"The amount has been made available for the current rabi season. In addition, Nabard has made provision of an additional credit limit of Rs 1,850 crore to ensure that the DCCBs do not face liquidity crunch in fully catering to the rabi season requirement of farmers. This money would be made available on demand to cooperative banks," an official release said today.

It further said, "NABARD is in close touch with the RBI so that sufficient cash could be made available to farmers of Haryana against their credit limits for current rabi crop season."

Notably, the government had decided to step up efforts to aid farmers in the wake of cash-crunch caused by demonetisation.

Nabard yesterday said it has sanctioned an additional Rs 21,000 crore to district cooperative banks to make loans available to farmers amid the winter sowing season.
