Chief Secretary Lalthara has asked Dimapur district administration to take measures against the boycott called by NGO Public Action Committee of Naga Council, Dimapur against illegal immigrants.
In a letter to Deputy Commissioner Hushili Sema yesterday, Lalthara said, "An NGO is not authorised to take such action against any group of people."
He said it was likely to vitiate the atmosphere not only in the state, but in other parts of the country, especially in view of the targeting of people from the northeast in Maharashtra and Karnataka and the fear being created in the minds of Nagas residing outside the state.
He asked Sema to call the PAC members and impress upon them the need not to proceed with such a movement.
The Naga Council has said that its campaign was a non-violent movement in line with Mahatma Gandhi's Swadeshi call for citizens to socially and economically boycott illegal migrants.
Noting that the movement was not against Muslims, the PAC said citizens of Nagaland should boycott shops and items being sold by aliens and they should not give their houses or premises to them on rent.
