Nagaland observes National Press Day

Nagaland today joined the rest of the country in observating the National Press Day.

Under the aegis of three Press Clubs of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung and Directorate of Information and Public Relation, Government of Nagaland, the functions were held on the theme "Professional ethics in Journalism" at Dimapur.

Publisher and Editor, The Morung Express Dr Akum Longchari as the main Speaker said Journalism was not just a profession but a social service that embraces rights, duties and obligations as a pillar of democracy.

"Truth is the touchstone of journalism and getting the facts right us is the cardinal principle of journalism. Journalists need to strive for accuracy, give all the relevant facts and ensure that they have been checked and cross- checked," he said.
 

He also reminded that fairness and impartiality are imperative to attain high standards of professional journalism.

Director IPR, Limawati Ao lauded the media in Nagaland, observing that it gives wider coverage as compared to the papers of other states.

He also informed that the Nagaland Journalists Welfare Scheme has been approved by the cabinet and the same has been notified and is operative.
