Nagaland's famous Hornbill Festival that lasts for 10 days will be celebrated at the picturesque Naga Heritage village, Kisama, from December 1, officials of the state tourism department said.
The festival is an annual tourism promotional event of the state government, jointly organised by the Tourism and Art and Culture Departments, to showcase the rich traditional heritage and colourful culture of the Naga people.
Kisama have been declared as 'plastic-free zone', Joint Secretary of Tourism Department M Shayung Phom yesterday said.
The joint secretary also asked the tribal 'hohos' to propagate and ensure that no plastic is used during the ten days of festivities.
Kisama is about 12 km from the state capital.
This year, the use of plastic and polythene, including packaged drinking water, will be prohibited, Tourism Department Joint Director Akhale Vizol said.
Nearly 600 artistes from 17 tribes will take part in daily cultural performances, an official of the Art and Culture said.
