Nagar Parishad clerk, peon caught while taking bribe

A head clerk and a peon working with Shahpur Nagar Parishad in Burhanpur district were today allegedly caught by the Lokayukta police while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a contractor.

Acting on the contractor's complaint, the anti- corruption sleuths laid a trap and caught head clerk Sheikh Ishaq and peon Rajesh Bharti at the Nagar Parishad's office, deputy superintendent of police Praveen Baghel said.

The clerk took the bribe through Rajesh, the DSP said.

The contractor had carried out the work of erecting electric poles, for which the Nagar Parishad owed him Rs Rs 5.35 lakh.

The accused had demanded Rs 15,000 from him to clear the payment.
 

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the duo.
