In a blow to the workers, the Nageshwari Tea Garden in Mal sub-division of Jalpaiguri district was today formally shut down after being non-fuctional for nine months.
The Joint Forum of Tea Garden Workers' Union leader Jiaul Alam said the developments rendered an estimated 3,000 workers - both permanent and casual - jobless.
Alam alleged both central and West Bengal government were not serious about the fate of closed tea garden workers.
