Seeking increased water supply through Munak canal and construction of more night shelters for the homeless, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today discussed various issues pertaining to Delhi with LT Governor Najib Jung.

Water from the Munak canal is expected to be supplied to the water treatment plants which cater to the residential areas of West and South Delhi.

Despite Delhi having paid money to Haryana for construction of Munak canal, the national capital is not getting its share of 80 MGD (million gallons daily) water.

Naidu spoke to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on the issue of water supply through the canal.

According to a senior UD Ministry official, Naidu discussed several issues including regularisation of unauthorized colonies, allocation of houses built under JNNURM, preparation of standardized maps up to 200 sq mt to enable online processing for approval and implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission with Jung.

Jung informed that allocation of dwelling units built for the weaker sections and poor under JNNURM will commence and will be completed by February next year.

There are about 20,000 such houses to be allotted to the eligible beneficiaries.

He further said that Delhi government will soon send its proposals regarding actions to be taken in the matter of regularization of unauthorized colonies.

Jung said adequate measures have been taken to provide shelter to the homeless under which about 40,000 blankets have been arranged. He said efforts are being made to ensure availability of water and medical care at night shelters.
