Congress today asked the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh to pressurise the Centre to fulfil all promises made to the state at the time of bifurcation early last year.
"If the Narendra Modi government fails to honour the promises envisaged in the AP Reorganisation Act (which led to creation of Telangana), TDP should withdraw support to the BJP -led ruling coalition at the Centre," said party General Secretary in-charge of Andhra affairs Digvijay Singh.
He was talking to the media after returning from the funeral of Congress leader and former Minister P Venkata Rao at Nuziveed.
The then UPA Government brought and passed the Act, under which the successor state of Andhra Pradesh was given special category status, among other benefits.
A financial package was also promised and it was announced that Polavaram irrigation project would be accorded national status to facilitate smooth rehabilitation of displaced people.
Besides these, all assurances given to the residuary state must be implemented by the NDA Government and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should put pressure on the Centre for their early resolution, the Congress leader said.
Construction of a new capital city for Andhra Pradesh is also the responsibility of the Union Government, he said.
On Delhi Assembly elections, he termed AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal as a "failed administrator" and said Kiran Bedi may not save the BJP which is facing crisis in the city-state, going to the polls early next month.
Bedi, a former IPS officer and activist, joined BJP last week. She was later announced as the party's Chief Ministerial candidate in Delhi.
