Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu today rejected RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's reported remark that naxalism and crime were on the rise as backward classes were being denied their rights, and said that it was not correct to make such statements.
Taking a dig at the RJD supremo, Naidu said Prasad must have made the remark based on his "own experience".
"He must have been talking through his own experience. He has been a Chief Minister for so many years. Many years he has been a minister in Centre and has spent a lot of years in politics. He must have said as per his own experience," Naidu told reporters when asked the question.
Prasad had reportedly said that crime and naxalism were on the rise as rights of backward class were being denied.
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister further said that making such remarks was "not right".
Noting that Naxalism is a "political thought", Naidu said the thinking of Naxalbari movement is that power comes from the barrel of the gun, which cannot be accepted in democracy.
"Question is if they want to capture political power, they must join political mainstream, contest election, convince the people and then fulfil the promises whatever they made. Taking gun and killing innocent people will not solve any problem.
"Laluji with all his experience, I do not know why he made such a remark. Keeping in view the coming elections, if they are trying to curry favour with those extremist groups, that is a different matter," he said.
