Naidu seeks total sanitation in Delhi; to meet all mayors

Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu will soon meet mayors of all three municipal corporations of the city to draw a road map for ensuring total sanitation in the national capital.

After a meeting with NDMC Mayor Preeti Agarwal here today, the Urban Development minister directed his officials to convene such meetings with mayors of other civic bodies as well.

Agarwal apprised Naidu about the financial and other constraints being faced by the municipal body to address various problems.

She elaborated on the efforts initiated to improve the revenue of the urban local body like development of municipal land and properties.
 

Referring to the problem of land availability for garbage disposal, the NDMC mayor said the MCD would like to focus on solid waste management approach through 'Waste to Energy' plants and waste recycling.

Also highlighting the issue of overflowing Bhalswa landfill, she said it needed "immediate attention".

Naidu reiterated that he would like to have detailed discussions with mayors of all the three MCDs soon for evolving a road map for ensuring total sanitation in Delhi.
