Aluminium major NALCO today said it was committed to supplying hot metal to the proposed Angul Aluminium Park, a joint venture between it and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, despite operating at reduced capacities due to coal problem.

The Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy had recently agreed to provide a grant-in aid of Rs 43 crore for development of physical infrastructure and common utilities in the Angul Aluminium Park, the PSU said in a statement.

After this, IDCO had sought commitment from NALCO for raw material support to downstream units to be located in the park, it said.

Though NALCO is operating at reduced capacities, due to difficulties arising out of lack of adequate supply of coal for its captive power plant, the company has agreed to supply 50,000 tonnes per annum of molten metal initially to Angul Aluminium Park for promoting downstream industries, the statement said.

NALCO may consider enhancing the quantity once the Utkal-E coal block allotted to it becomes operational.

Work in the coal block is presently delayed due to several hurdles and the company has requested the state authorities to intervene to remove such hurdles, it added.
