Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said that his government has named a number of schemes as 'Samajwadi' since the word which means 'socialist' was in the Preamble of Constitution.

Launching the "Samajwadi Awas Yojna" today, Akhilesh said the intention of naming the scheme as such was because the word Samajwadi (socialist) sounds easier and also it was part of the Preamble.

"Once debate ensued over the naming of an ambulance service. We decided to name it as Samajwadi Ambulance service. There was much debate in the Central Cabinet on how to remove the name, but they also failed," he said.

"At that time some other party was in the power, but they cannot replace the word Samajwadi, because it is in the Constitution and the Preamble and no one can replace it," the Chief Minister said.

Referring to the housing scheme launched today, Akhilesh said his Samajwad (socialism) was in favour of prosperity of all sections of the society.

He said that the building constructed under the scheme would be earthquake resistant.

Stressing that this housing scheme would uplift the people, the CM said, "We want to see that the dream of the common people of owning a home is realised with in one year. When people get possession of the houses under this scheme, then only SP's dream will get realised."

He also congratulated the officers associated with framing the scheme.
