Names of several elected representatives have been found on the beneficiary list under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Ganjam district, prompting the launch of an inquiry into the matter, officials said today.
Ganjam Collector PC Choudhary has already ordered an inquiry into how the elected representatives -- who belong to local bodies and panchayats -- got the ration cards which are required for being a beneficiary under NFSA, they said.
Choudhary had on Friday ordered their respective BDOs to file FIRs against six persons, including a college lecturer, a high school teacher, a nurse at a government hospital and a college clerk, besides owners of cars and tractors, for allegedly obtaining NFSA ration cards by making false declarations.
