Tata's small car Nano was today unveiled in a new avatar-- the new probable Delhi Police emergency response vehicle to cater to women and children in distress.

The curtains of the white car, embossed with Delhi Police logos, were taken off by Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami who inaugurated the four-day 'India International Security Expo' at Pragati Maidan here.

The car has been showcased as a potential Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle which can be used by lady police drivers to rescue women and children in distress from Delhi streets.

"We have just launched a concept of using the small car for emergency response instead of the big PCR vehicles being used at present by Delhi Police. We would want the police and other agencies tasked for exigency duties to have a look and see if this fits their bill," Monty Singh of security firm 'Grand', which has launched the car, told PTI.

The Nano was chosen as the right model for this launch, Singh said, as it is a thorough-bred Indian car and the theme for this year's security fair is 'Made in India'.

The customised Nano car, from the Tata Motors stable, is equipped with medical gadgets and other first aid accessories which could pick an injured to a safer location in quick time.

The car also comes fitted with a vertical red-blue traditional police beacon, a blaring siren and search lights.

"It is good that indigenous efforts are being made in the security gadgets and devices domain in the country. I will ask officials in the paramilitary and police forces to see whatever this exhibition offers and explore if they need something for their use," Goswami said after inspecting the car.

He tried his hand at the wheels too.

The firm which has brought out the car is popular for supplying red, blue and other beacons to government vehicles under the brand name 'Grand'.

Ninety-two exhibitors are showcasing a host of security, surveillance and safety related gadgets and devices in the fair which will be on till September 29.
