A local court today remanded an aide of controversial godman Asaram's fugitive son Narayan Sai in four-day police custody in connection with sexual assault case lodged against the father-son duo.

The police today produced Dharmendra Pariyar, alias Dharmesh, arrested from Delhi on Friday, before an additional senior civil court judge and sought his remand for 14 days. However, the judge remanded him in police custody till October 24.

Dharmesh, who was in-charge of Asaram's ashram on Ridge Road in Central Delhi, was apprehended from his hideout in a joint operation by Crime branch of Delhi Police and Gujarat Police.

He was brought to the city for questioning after being produced before a Delhi court, police said.

Police sought the remand on the ground that thorough interrogation of Dharmesh is needed since he is the close aide of Narayan Sai who has been evading arrest.

Police also stated that a sealed envelope was recovered from Dharmesh when he was arrested. He was supposed to hand over the envelope to someone in Ahmedabad.

The Surat-based sisters in their complaints charged Narayan Sai and Asaram of rape, sexual assault, illegal confinement and other charges.

The elder of the two sisters has accused Asaram of repeated sexual assaults between 1997 and 2006 during the time she had been living in his ashram on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city.

The younger of the two sisters had filed a complaint against Sai, accusing him of repeated sexual assaults between 2002 and 2005 when she was living in their Surat ashram.

Asaram, 72, was brought to Ahmedabad last week on a transit remand from a court in Jodhpur, where he was lodged in a jail since August in another sexual assault case.
