The campaign for forthcoming Narayankhed byelection in Medak district hotted up with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today attacking the Congress and TDP over "backwardness" of the Assembly constituency.

"There are no basic civic facilities in the constituency. There is no network of roads. There is no water or facilities for transport or any hospital. The Congress and the TDP represented the seat for 68 years... What have they done?" Rao said, addressing a rally.

The election was necessitated following the death of the sitting Congress MLA Patlolla Krishna Reddy, popularly known as Kishta Reddy.

The polling will be held on February 13 and counting of votes on February 16.

Rao said his government was making efforts to make "Golden Telangana" a reality.

"TRS government is spending Rs 35,000 crore on welfare schemes ensuring development of each and every community of the state," he said.

Rao also asked the people "not to get lured by money or liquor" and vote for development.

In his speech, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said the constituency lacked even basic amenities.

For the bypoll, TRS candidate Bhupal Reddy is pitted against his brother Vijaypal Reddy who is contesting on TDP ticket. Congress has fielded Sanjeev Reddy, son of the deceased MLA, as its nominee.
