Narcotic smuggler held in J&K, heroin worth over Rs 2Cr seized

An alleged narcotic smuggler was arrested and 500 grams of heroin worth over Rs 2 crores in the international market was recovered in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

Acting on a specific information, police laid a check post at Mandakbas in Ramban district and intercepted the accused on suspicious grounds yesterday, police said.

The accused, Mohammad Shafi, tried to escape the check post but was later chased by the officers and arrested, they said, adding that 500 grams of heroin valuing over Rs 2 crores in the international market was recovered from his possession.

A case under NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and further investigation is underway, he said.
