Realtors' body NAREDCO today demanded that Gurgaon should be included in the government's Smart City programme as the city meets most of the criteria.
Altogether 100 cities are to be developed under the government's Smart City mission. So far, the Ministry of Urban Development Minister has declared list of 33 cities under this programme.
"We demand that Gurgaon be declared as the smart city as it already meets most of the criteria," NAREDCO Chairman Rajeev Talwar said.

NAREDCO President Parveen Jain said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between its members and Haryana government for the development of Haryana with special attention on Gurgaon.
Under the programme, each selected city will be given Rs 500 crore over a period of five years by the Centre with the respective states expected to make the matching contribution.
Talwar said that Gurgaon deserves to be declared as a smart city as the city has requisite infrastructure including metro rail network.
"The 13 cities selected in the Fast Track Competition have proposed a total investment of Rs 30,229 crore. With this, the investment proposed by 33 cities (20 cities announced in January and 13 cities today) under the smart city plans is now Rs 80,789 crore," Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had said last month.
