Narmada conservation campaign to enter Omkareshwar tomorrow

Madhya Pradesh Government has lined up several programmes at Omkareshwar as 'Namami Devi Narmade - Sewa Yatra,' a campaign to create awareness about conservation of river Narmada, would enter the city tomorrow.

"On February 9, the ongoing world's largest river conservation campaign, Namami Devi Narmade - Sewa Yatra, will enter the divine Omkareshwar town which Adi Shankaracharya had visited. To build a movement and mobilise support for concrete steps for sustenance of Narmada, the government will organise several programmes on the banks of the river," a senior public relations department official said.

Among the programs would be a series of discussions on 'Advaita Vedanta' philosophy propounded by Shankaracharya.
 

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would be attending the programmes alongwith several religious leaders and senior RSS functionary Suresh Soni.

Aadi Shankaracharya is said to have met his Guru Govinda Bhagavatpada at Omkareshwar.

The Namami Narmade campaign was kicked off on December 11, 2016, and would conclude on May 11, 2017.
