Gujarat Minister of State for Water Resources Nanu Vanani said in the state Assembly today that Amreli district, suffering from water scarcity, will get water from Narmada dam.

He was replying to a question from Amreli MLA Paresh Dhanani and Lathi MLA Bavku Unghad during the Question Hour, regarding serious drinking water shortage in the district.

Vanani said, "Currently, Amreli is being provided 70 million litres per Day (MLD) water, up from previous 51 MLD."

At a review meeting, it was decided that additional water will be provided to water-scarce places. A pipeline will also be made functional from Navda to Botad to provide Narmada water to Amreli.

Major parts of Saurashtra, Kutch and North Gujarat are facing drinking water shortage owing to insufficient rains during the last monsoon.
