Narmada district eyes spot in record books over voter drive

Tribal-dominated Narmada district in Gujarat is vying for an entry into the record books for creating voter awareness.

A voter awareness campaign was carried yesterday in the district, where a total of 67,312 signatures were obtained in a single day, Rakesh Shankar, District Electoral Officer Rakesh Shankar, told PTI today.

The previous world record is of around 25,000 signatures in a day.

"The campaign was part of an attempt to enter the Guinness and Limca Books of Records," said Shankar, who is also District Collector.

He said they will approach these prestigious record books for the district's formal entry.

The campaign, organised by election officials, envisaged people signing and taking a pledge to cast their vote on the polling day.
