Five-month-long 'Narmada Sewa Yatra', aimed at making the Narmada river, life-line of Madhya Pradesh, free of pollution, will begin from Amarkantak, its origin, on December 11.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made the announcement today.
While a major portion of the Yatra which will trace the river's course would be on foot, the rest would be by vehicles, he said.
"I will ensure that every week I take part in the foot march of the Yatra, which will end by May 11," he said here.
He had spoken to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the Yatra, and Modi was excited about it, Chouhan said.
During the Yatra, planting of trees near the river would be promoted. People would be educated about how to keep the holy river clean, he said.
Local people, NGOs, activists and religious leaders would be a part of the Yatra, he said.
