Narrow escape for man after car cathches fire

A drunk man had a narrow escape after his car caught fire near Mandi House in the early hours today, the police said.

Karthikey (21), a resident of east Delhi's Krishna Nagar, was returning from a party in a five-star hotel in Connaught Place when he rammed his car into the Mandi House roundabout, they said.

The car then rammed into the wall of a park. He saw smoke emanating from the front portion of the car and jumped out in the nick of time, the police said.

A fire tender was pressed into service and he was taken by the police to the RML Hospital for medical examination, they added.
 

The doctor opined that he smelled of alcohol. the crime team was called on the spot and the scene was photographed, the police said.

Karthikey was booked for rash and drunken driving, they added.
