A 70-year-old prisoner at Nashik Road Central Jail, who was injured in an attack by a fellow inmate, has succumbed to wounds, officials said today.
Tanaji Maruti Mane, convicted in a murder case and serving life sentence, succumbed to injuries in Nashik Civil Hospital last evening, they said.
He was attacked by another prisoner Sachin Chavare (36) on Monday evening over a minor dispute. Chavare, in a fit of rage, got hold of a brick and hit Mane on his neck. The septuagenarian prisoner was injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment, the officials said
On a complaint lodged with Nashik Road Police Station, Chavare has been booked for murder.
