Nashik Rural Police will soon make use of social media to effectively maintain law and order under its jurisdiction.

Nashik (Rural) Superintendent of Police Sanjay Mohite told reporters here yesterday that two mobile phones enabled with mobile messaging app 'Whatsapp' have been brought into use and the numbers will be shared with public who can report police about crime, criminal activities or illegal businesses.

He also appealed to people to inform police if they come across any untoward incident like rioting, eve teasing, crime against children in their vicinity, or even report about spreading of any kind of rumour or false information.

People can also send pictures and videos of any crime or suspicion activity, the officer added.

He informed that the service will remain operative 24X7 and the department has also decided to appoint dedicated staff for the purpose.
