National Agro Expo to attract lakhs of farmers: Chavan

The National Agro Expo commencing here from February 9 would attract lakhs of farmers from various parts of the country and showcase the best in our agriculture sector, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan said here today.

The five-day expo will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee and is set to exhibit country's farm produce, agro equipments, seeds, fertilizers, farm technology, drip irrigation and modern gadgets to the visitors.

The Indian Railways will run special trains to ferry farmers from across the country for the event, Chavan, who reviewed the preparations accompanied by a galaxy of Ministers, told reporters here.

He said there would be about 1,000 exhibitors and also some international players at the expo.
 

Symposium, seminars, workshops, talks by experts are being organised for the benefit of visiting farmers. There will be interpreters from different languages so that the content and message reaches out without any linguistic barrier.

The contents will be provided live to 40 lakh farmers through Internet across the country. Experts from 87 Agro laboratories and from 27 Agriculture varsities will arrive here to provide information and assistance to visiting farmers.

The expo is jointly organised by Government of Maharashtra and Government of India and is touted to be as one of the biggest ever held in the country.

It is being organised to commemorate the centernary celebrations of former Chief Minister Vasantrao Naik.

Agriculture Minister Radhkrishna Vikhe Patil, Gaurdian Minister Shivajirao Moghe, Co-Operation Minister Harshwardhan Patil, MoS for Energy, Rajnedra Mulak, Agriculture Commissioner Sudhir Goel were present on the occasion.
