National champions Sanil Shetty and Ankita advanced in the singles competition on day three of the 34th PSPB Inter Unit Table Tennis Tournament being held at the Jamia Milia Islamia Sports Complex here.
Ankita of ONGC faced resistance from Payal Vora of HPCL in her pre quarter final game before prevailing 11-7 13-11 12-14 11-9 14-12.
In the men's singles pre-quarterfinals, Shetty representing BPCL defeated Sourav Chakraborty of IOCL in straight sets -- 11-7 11-6 11-7 11-9.

In an exciting match, India's top paddler Sharath Kamal (IOCL) prevailed over Subhajit Saha (OIL) 11-9 12-10 11-8 7-11 11-8. The match saw some intense rallies before experienced Sharath closed out the contest.
A match which saw some high quality table tennis and also a lot of unforced errors was between 15-year-old and HPCL's Manav Thakkar who lost 2-11 12-10 9-11 4-11 11-6 2-11 to Sourav Saha of ONGC.
Manav showed glimpses of exceptional skill during his loss which reflect the tremendous talent he possesses and will be a player to look out for in the future.
In the final match of the day hotly contested between Anthony Amalraj (ONGC) and Soumyadeep Roy (IOCL), passions ran high. After being three games down Amalraj came back strongly to win the next two games. Trailing 1-8 down in the 6th game, Roy held his nerve and played some scintillating yet percentage play to recover and win the last game 12-10 and thus won the match 11-9 11-6 11-7 11-13 11-13 12-10.
