The Telangana government on Thursday said the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, on a visit to the state, has appreciated it for the measures initiated for the welfare of tribals.

Commission chairperson Nand Kumar Sai and its members held department-wise reviews with state government officials, a state government release said here.

The measures included double bed room houses for poor, recognising habitations with population of 300 to 500 people as Gram Panchayats.

The commission also cited increasing days of work under the rural employment guarantee scheme NREGA from 150 to 200 as another measure towards tribal welfare, according to the release.
