Press Trust of India Puducherry
: The National Fish Workers Forum today flayed the Centre for hiking the diesel price and demanded that the authority given to Oil Marketing Companies to fix prices be rescinded.

Forum Chairman M Ilango said in a release here that the present dispensation at the Centre was adopting the same 'ill conceived approach' as the previous UPA government and demanded that the price be rolled back.

He said the Union government should rescind the authority given to OMCs to fix the price as this was leading to severe hardships among people, particularly the fishing community.

Ilango also demanded that the Centre exempt diesel and kerosene from all levies.

The hike was a serious blow, coming at a time when fishing operations were resuming after the 45 day fishing ban, he said.
