"It is not enough to merely give national river status to Ganga. It should be given national heritage status," 'Ganga Samagra' member and BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh told reporters here.

Demanding national heritage status to Ganga and also to create awareness among people on its cleanliness, the apolitical body would launch a campaign at Gangasagar in West Bengal on September 21 which would conclude at Gangotri (Uttarakhand) on October 28.

Climate expert R K Pachauri, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Samajwadi Party have extended their support to the 'Clean Ganga Campaign', he said adding MPs of all political parties and environment experts would be roped in.
