National junior boys and girls chess tourney begins in Patna

The 47th national junior boys chess championship and 32nd national junior girls chess championship began at Patliputra sports complex here today.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman V K Saxena jointly inaugurated the championship by making one move each on a chess board.

Convener of the event Naveen Upadhayay welcomed the guests and expressed his gratitude to Khadi India for sponsoring the event.

A total of 196 players from 26 states are participating in the championship which would come to an end on September 11, Upadhyay said.

The state government will take all steps to promote a game like chess which helps in preparing the youth to face the challenges of life, Sushil Modi said.
 

He added that the government will like to follow the example of Gujarat where chess is taught as subject in classes.

Speaking on the occasion, Saxena correlated the relation between charkha and chess and assured Khadi India's support for promotion of the game that originated in India like khadi.

AICF secretary Bharat Singh Chouhan announced that khadi will be the uniform of the national teams when they take part in international events.
