A National Law University will soon come up in Sonepat district of Haryana, state Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal said today.
The university will be set up at a cost of Rs 190 crore and its academic session will start from 2015-16, the minister told the state Assembly today.
A Bill to establish the university was passed last year in the Assembly, and the institution will be set up at Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonepat.
There are 14 national law universities in the country right now.
A minimum of 25 per cent seats in the university will be reserved for Haryana students.
The minister, while replying to a question raised by Rohtak MLA B B Batra during the ongoing budget session of the state Assembly here, said that a provision of Rs five crore has been made for setting up of the university during the current fiscal and it will come up on 25 acres of land.
The drawing and layout work of the university is in progress and admissions will commence from the 2015-16 academic session, she said.
Replying to another question, state Environment Minister Ajay Singh Yadav told the House that the state government has taken up the matter of pollution in Gurgaon Canal with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, the Central Pollution Control Board, the Government of NCT and the Uttar Pradesh government, at various levels.
Pollution in the Gurgaon Canal is mainly due to discharge of untreated or partially treated effluents from 26 drains of Delhi and UP into the Yamuna river in Delhi territory, he said.
This matter is an inter-state problem, which has been raised at various levels, Yadav said.
The Haryana State Pollution Control Board is continuously monitoring the quality of water of the Canal near Badarpur and the last inspection was carried out on February 13 this year, the minister added.
