The second National Lok Adalat today disposed of over 62,000 cases and a settlement amount of Rs 64.97 crore was disbursed by 232 benches constituted in the high court, district courts, tribunals and commissions in Delhi.
The benches were set up to deal with pending matters ranging from civil to criminal compoundable cases as well as matrimonial matters, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) said in a statement.
"As such in the State of Delhi, on the occasion of this Second National Lok Adalat in all 232 benches disposed of 62,641 cases and the settlement amount was Rs 64.97 crore.

It said this time, DSLSA worked towards increasing the reach and network of Lok Adalats as an Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in other quasi Judicial Forums.
"Meetings were held with officials of State Consumer Commission, Revenue Department, Delhi Development Authority, New Delhi Municipal Corporation apart from Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRT) and Central Administrative Tribunals (CAT). The idea was to popularise and propagate the culture of reconciliation by way of taking recourse ADR like Lok Adalat through amicable settlements.
"As a result of sustained efforts of DSLSA, this time Lok Adalats were also held in State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, DRT, CAT, Revenue Department Courts i.E. SDM Courts apart from Permanent Lok Adalats and District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forums," it said.
The release said that the pendency of cases in Delhi district courts was reduced by 5.19 per cent in a single day.
