National Lok Adalat settles claims of Rs 31.07 cr in Thane

The National Lok Adalat, on December 12, settled claims to the tune of Rs 31.07 crore in as many as 17,632 cases including pre-litigation and pending matters in Thane.

Around 85 per cent of the pending cases which were refereed to it were settled in this Lok Adalat, National Lok Adalat sources said today.

"Of the total settlement, 16384 related to pending cases in various courts and 1248 pre-litigation matters were also cleared in the Adalat which was held in 10 different locations simultaneously," R S Salgaonkar, Secretary, Thane District Legal Aid services Authority, said.

Thane Principal District Judge S K Kotwal and member of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal K D Vadane guided the Lok Adalat which received a good response from parties.
 

Salgaonkar said, maximum of the total amount settled pertained to the motor accidents while 418 pending cases were settled where around Rs 20.15 crore had been awarded.

150 matters involving an amount of Rs 2.11 crore related to banks were settled and 32 industrial disputes cases were settled involving Rs 5.22 crore, he said.

60 matters of labour disputes were settled involving an amount of Rs 1.51 crore and 42 cases falling under the Negotiable instruments were also settled.

Apart from this, 265 cases of electricity theft cases were settled at pre-litigation stage itself and 26 pending cases were resolved.

He further said under other civil disputes, a total of 111 cases involving about Rs 16.43 lakh were resolved at the pre-litigation stage and another 98 pending cases to the tune of around Rs 22.80 lakh were too resolved.
