National Lok Adalat settles over one lakh matters

Over one lakh pre-litigation and pending cases were settled by the National Lok Adalat, held in the high courts and other courts in most parts of the country today.

The fifth Lok Adalat, held by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), disposed of pre-litigation and pending cases relating to disputes over various matters, particularly those relating to public utililties like electricity, water and telephone services.

According to a NALSA statement, more than 93,000 pre- litigation cases and over 26,000 pending cases were settled in 26 States and Union Territories till 1700 hours today.

Besides, the parties were able to arrive at final settlements worth more than Rs 65 crore across the country.
 

The National Lok Adalat, however, could not be held in the trial courts in Delhi and some other states including Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

The Lok Adalat in Delhi district courts has been postponed to August 13 due to the recent changes in holiday schedule.
