National Lok Adalat to be held in Vizianagram on Dec 12

Over 1900 cases, civil and criminal, will be taken up for disposal in the district during the 9th national Lok Adalat on December 12.

The 1,966 cases were identified for disposal out of 16,541 criminal and civil cases pending in the district court.

The Lok Adalat will be held at benches constituted at Cheepurupalli, Gajapathinagaram, S Kota, Kottavalasa, Bobbili, Parvathipuram, Saluru, Kurupam in the district, district Judge and district Legal Services Committee chairman M Lakshmi Narayana said in a statement here today.

Specialised cases pertaining to compound criminal cases, motor vehicle accident insurances and financial related cases will be listed for settlement.
 

Hundreds of litigants are expected to get relief during the national lok adalat.

The lok adalat is part of Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) mechanism to resolve litigation pending since long, he said.

The litigants are being encouraged to reach amicable settlements during the exercise in which thousands of cases are likely to be undertaken up for finalisation, the Judge said.

There is no chance to go for further appeals in cases which were settled through lok adalats, the Judge said and appealed to litigants to get their disputes resolved at the lok adalat.

Additional District Judge and Committee secretary M Srihari said that huge number of pending cases have been settled amicably in the adalats earlier.

He appealed the litigants to utilise the lok adalat platform to solve their long pending cases.
