The Directorate of Information and Publicity of Puducherry government today cancelled its programme to hold the National Press Day at a star hotel here following a controversy over finalising list of correspondents and lensmen for the Photo ID cards.
The Directorate landed in a controversy as it had extended invitation only to a select few journalists and left out names of several journalists for the cards following which the scribes protested.
Representations were made to the Chief Minister and also to the Secretary to Information Department Kandavelu by the aggrieved scribes and the programme to hold the National Press day was ordered to be cancelled, an official said.
Chief Minister N Rangasamy had told some reporters yesterday that the whole decision would be revisited and the Information Secretary also assured them that he would look into their representation.
