National School Badminton to be held from Nov 21-25

The 60th National School Badminton Championship for the U-14 category will start here on November 21 with close to 300 players taking part in the meet.

"Five day 60th National School Games in the sports discipline of Badminton Boys and Girls under 14 years of age group is being organised by the Department of Youth Services & Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of india (SGFI). It will be a five-day affair from November 21-25," DG of Youth Services & Sports, J&K, Navin Agarwal, told reporters here.

As many as 60 teams (30 teams for boys and 30 teams for girls) from various states, including Union Territories comprising of 145 players in boys section and 146 girls section from across the country are expected to take part in the competition, he said.
 

He said that they shall be accompanied by about 110 officials from various states and SGFI.

For smooth and successful conduct of the competition, various committees have already been constituted by the department, he said adding the matches shall be played at Indoor complex University of Jammu and Indoor complex District Police Line Jammu.

For convenience of participants, a control room has been established at Depuy Director Youth Services & Sports office complex at Gandhi Nagar here, he said adding that boarding lodging have been made in Youth Hostel at Nagrota and Sarsvati Dham at Railway station here.

In order to field well co-ordinated host teams in both boys and girls section, the players have been put on intensive 15-day coaching camp, he said.

"It is expected that the host team will perform better in National Games as compared to previous years," Agarwal added.

Prior to their selection for national games the players have gone through various levels of competitions viz district level inter school competitions and inter district state level competitions, Agarwal said.
